Tumaini Vision

Our vision is to establish a community network and support centre that will connect marginalised people in Durban, with a special focus on the refugee community, by creating safe spaces and interactive platforms for people to come together and partner in social transformation projects towards strengthened community healing, connection and social action.

Tumaini Mission

Our mission is to create a supportive environment for marginalised people, especially focused on the refugee community living in or coming to Durban. This involves the establishment of a community centre and various projects aimed at supporting people and communities who are vulnerable and have a lack of access to resources and opportunities.

Programs and initiatives intended to create such a supportive environment, include:

• Creating support networks for the ongoing development of the project and individuals and groups linked to the project;

• A homework and information centre;

• Youth groups;

• Women’s and men’s support groups;

• Vocational training and skills development programs;

• Mentoring programs with community volunteers designed for the self-sustainment of all projects;

• A Refugee Integration Project;

• Community wellbeing and psychosocial support training and groups.
